Capsule Geology

The Davis 2 (Agnes) occurrence is located about 70 kilometres east of Dease Lake, just west of the Turnagain River.

The showing is hosted in an Alaskan-type ultramafic intrusive complex. This zoned complex consists of a dunite core and surrounding peripheral peridotites, pyroxene-rich peridotite, and olivine pyroxenite with maximum dimensions of 3 by 8.2 kilometres. It was intruded in the Early Jurassic (and earlier(?) into Upper Paleozoic(?) and/or Triassic(?) metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks of the Quesnel Terrane. It is in faulted contact on the east and north with slate and phyllite of the Ordovician to Mississippian Road River Group (Ancestral North America).

A blasted area about 30 metres long reveals olivine pyroxenite grading to pyroxenite. About half the outcrop consists of pegmatitic pyroxenite which displays very irregular but sharp contacts with olivine pyroxenite. Interstitial sulphides consisting of pyrrhotite and very minor chalcopyrite occur throughout the olivine pyroxenite and locally in the pegmatitic pyroxenite.

In 2007, drill hole 07-230 intersected variably tremolite- and serpentine-altered wehrlite and dunite with two short intervals of calc-silicate inclusion near surface. Visual sulphide estimates remained below 0.5 per cent. Analyses returned no significant results. Hole 07-230 suggests that there is limited potential for additional low-grade nickel resource in the Mandible Area.

In 2007, about 250 metres west-northwest of MINFILE plot Davis 2, hole 07-231 was drilled to test an area of finely disseminated mineralization in outcrop (Assessment Report 29748). The hole intersected variably serpentinized dunite and wehrlite with short intervals of moderate carbonate alteration and minor olivine clinopyroxenite. Visual sulphide estimates generally remained below 1 per cent and were often at trace levels. Analyses yielded no significant results. Hole 07-231 was unsuccessful in extending eastward the potential for mineralization found in the Mandible prospect area (MINFILE 104I 165).

See the Turnagain Nickel (104I 119) and Highland (104I 127) for further geological and historical details of this and other nearby related showings on the Turnagain Nickel project of Hard Creek Nickel.
